Okay so all of this might be a bit much but the trimming system just added an INSANE level of customisation so I don't think it's too out there.
Ceramist, ceramic table, kiln, and pots:
Firstly we need more than one type of new pot, my recommendation is to add a new villager type with a new workbench the ceramist and the ceramic table. This table will be used to craft clay balls into pots of various shapes including the current 2 and the MC Live one and maybe a few others. Once these raw clay pots are crafted they can then they can be fired like in the MC live presentation or they can be smelted. If you choose to fire them you can place shards on them while firing them. Once fired the pots will be dyable in all 16 terracotta colors and if a dyed pot is smelted then it will become the glazed version of its colour. Clay and sand will be smeltable using the kiln similarly to how the smoker and blast furnace work for food and ores.
Other unique artifacts and pedestals:
We need more than just shards, we need rare fancy bones, maybe teeth, or very damaged ancient weapons only suitable for display. How would you display these artifacts? My last suggestion is to add a pedestal block craftable with some type of stone. The pedestal block will be used to display your archaeological discoveries or any other items you choose to put on it.
