It is terrible idea to add such a large change on how to get netherite items because for hardcore players it will be extremely difficult to upgrade because of piglin brutes and will end a lot of hardcore world that people have spend1000s of hours working in and I think that making it harder for those players to protect them self is a big mistake.

Less diamonds should be used to duplicate the netherite upgrade template, maybe 3-4 instead of 7

We should be able to upgrade diamond horse armors into netherite ones. And maybe also use the new trims on it :D

The netherite upgrade texture doesn't seem to fit the game currently, so I think it should be composed of magma instead of netherrack to stand out more.

I think that finding Netherite is hard enough and having to find a "Netherite Upgrade" and use 21 diamonds to duplicate them and that's just the armour not including the tool I'm probably not going to find diamonds that often. This is probably one of your brightness ideas but I know that it's coming none the less.

Defenitly reduce diamond cost for this.

Rather than limiting it to chests, you should have a chance at obtaining them from bartering with Brutes.

Booo. I’m sorry but netherite is already hard enough to get. That’s why I have to get full netherite tools and armor before the new update. Who’s with me!!! (Full disclaimer, I love Minecraft but some of its ideas, eh)

I think netherite upgrade templates are too expensive, make that you can make them from 7 netherrack and 1 Diamond instead of 7 Diamond and 1 netherrack (add that with all templates). Or just make them appear in bastion chest 40% or 30% of the time instead of 10% or make a bastion locater, so bastion searching would be easier and nicer for new players. Or make ancient debris appear in pears (like generation) in bastions. Like a special or new room.

I love the trimming mechanic and the incentive to explore structures, but the netherite upgrade template feels like a limitation of trying to have the new mechanic without losing the old one of upgrading diamond to netherite. As a result it is a one-off item that doesn't match the other templates and only exists for this somewhat arbitrary reason (like the old functionality of the smithing table)

I'd rather see netherite armour become craftable like other armours, with netherite ingots. To balance, change the ingot recipe to be 2 ancient debris instead of 4. This still makes netherite more expensive, as was the stated goal of this change, but it also makes lodestones and netherite blocks more accessible. I think removing the upgrade template makes the new armour trimming and smithing table functionality clearer and able to stand on its own.

I like how it makes it harder to get the netherite but I think instead of giving 2 every time you craft it, it should give you an infinite one just because of how expensive it is. I also think the new look for the smithing table is strange and is just confusing.

I think this will make netherite too hard to obtain, and especially in old worlds, where the bastion was already explored.

I personally would love to see an alternative to using diamonds for copying Netherite templates because many servers use diamonds as currency so I would rather suggest either to reduce the diamond cost or giving maybe other blocks more use.
And just for the upgrade template to not ruin complete server economics

This sucks! After spending hours searching for Netherite, I don't want to have to go spend an even longer amount of time finding one of those templates or grinding to get them! Netherite isn't even much better than diamond armor and I will never use netherite again if this is in the game as it is currently.

I like the idea of needing to find netherite upgrade templates in bastions, but I disagree with them being consumable.  If they MUST be consumable, then the duplication recipe should be a more renewable item, even if the renewability is a bit advanced.  Also, doesn't make sense lore wise for a template to be consumable.  Most templates for building stuff IRL serve as a guide that can be pulled out and reused.

I think the cost of reusing netherite upgrades is too high with seven diamonds. In the progression from wood to stone to iron to diamond at least doubles durability each tier with all tools and armor, armor points go up and the number of blocks that can be instamined under different conditions go up. None of these are true with netherite, and you get max durability increase of 30% for tools and approximately 10% for armor.

This cost might be fine difficulty progression for singleplayer and friendly servers, but on competitive survival servers with PvP making small differences in gear matter more and keepinventory off, and the ability to lose your hard earned netherite armor in literally 2 seconds with a clean doubletap with end crystals, adding more grindiness to netherite just seems like a bad idea, given how many maxed toolsets you'd want, and give people who grinded pre-1.20 an unfair advantage.

I don't see obtaining netherite as needing more grindiness given cost associated with mining ancient debris and dealing with all the lava pockets and rarity deep in the nether.

"Netherite Upgrade" is too stale of a name, but I'd have to see what it would look like.

Not all Minecrafters are pro speed-runners and making Netherite armor to get does not add anything useful or fun to the game

What I like is that it's a great way to reward players and exploration, and drive players to dowards Bastions.

What I also like is that it's a great way to create monopolies in multiplayer, and adds a ton of strategy to PVP servers, since netherite armor is so important.

What I don't like is that netherite is already such a grind to get, but now also requires 7 diamonds per upgrade. Fair enough, but then... maybe make bastion chests contain more debris?

Another thing... the templates are way too rare. There's barely one per bastion, besides treasure bastions. They should be more common or even guaranteed in bridge variants.

While I understand the need for the netherite upgrade template due to the changes to the smithing table and the introduction of armor trims, the current recipe to duplicate of seven diamonds surrounding one netherrack and the upgrade is way too expensive. A recipe of one to two diamonds plus upgrade surrounded by netherrack makes much more sense. It also matches the texture better. Furthermore, the current chance of finding one (10%) is still way too low. You either need to make bastions easier to find or greatly increase the chance of finding the item(30-50%). One way you could make them easier to find is by making maps usable in the nether and having treasure maps that mark the bastions locations, just like you do for woodland mansions. What you currently have in place is more likely to cause players to switch to creative mode to get netherite gear in single-player worlds.

What about upgrades for all the materials too? Like if you need a diamond helmet you could get a gold helmet, and a diamond upgrade and boom! Instant helmet. (It would have to be rare though.)

I think the old system is better because:

    1. you haven't got the feeling when upgrading
    2. the netherrite ingot is no longer the important Item for the upgrade

Honestly I think the netherite upgrade good change I felt like fool netherite was to easy. Diamonds will be useful after you get diamond tools. now you'll have to go to a bastion to get netherite items which i think is a good change because I never would go to a bastion except for pigstep

I feel like with this it should be easier or cheaper to get the netherite itself as that already feels quite grindy. And as others have said swap out the netherack in the duplication recipe with either ancient debris, netherite scrap, or obsidian. I’m not sure if it is or isn’t fireproof, but if it isn’t then it would make sense to make it such.

This is one of the best changes in terms of difficulty for Minecraft, it's started to feel as though Diamond armor has become almost "skippable" with how easy it's been to get Netherite armour. This new extra step is very nice, as it has players spending more time in diamond, and brings a new adventure to the table! I've also seen others comment on how Bastions now appear more "vital" to the game, as strongholds are, and I fully agree!
