This is part of the post "Ruined Cities." Refer to hub post: (Ruined Cities – Minecraft Feedback)
Sentinels would be a mob that protects the ruined cities. They would be stone gargoyle-like creatures. Sentinels would sit in place and survey the area in front of them. Their vision would cast light (purely cosmetic. Would not affect mob spawning and such) so that you could see their field of vision. This would create a unique challenge of avoiding being seen. When the sentinel turned its head, you could sneak around, and try to hide behind something. If a sentinel sighted you, it would fly into the air and home in on you. If it lost sight of you, it would land at the last point it saw you and look around. If it found nothing it would return to its lookout point. Unlike the warden, they would not be impossible to kill, but it would be easier to avoid them than to fight them. They would have a sense of hearing as well, but not as acute as the warden, whereas the warden can instantly detect you if you make a sound, these would just become more suspicious depending on the type of sound.
They could be fooled by armor stands. If they saw an armor stand change its pose, (either by a player manually doing so, or a redstone signal) they would fly over to attack the armor stand.

(They're supposed to have wings, but I had trouble modeling those.)
