Paintings are an old feature in Minecraft and deserve much more love. Aligning with the themes of 1.20, it would be great if we could incorporate our dear paintings into the lore and storytelling of our game.
In order to effectively transform the painting block into a creative force for players, I think its most important to keep the old paintings of MC as a separate entity to what I’m about to propose: The Canvas Block.
Instead of being a randomly selected texture for a block, the canvas block will be a blank painting that can be drawn on, or have images copy and pasted onto it from online. Not only would this allow players to express themselves creatively in game, but players would also be enabled to share visual stories in game. Instead of signs with carefully worded messages, we would have amazing representations worth a 1000 words. I’m already excited, just thinking about the infinite possibilities for decorations we could create.
As for the existing Paintings, it would be great if all the variants of the old paintings are naturally generated in structures around the world, and do not randomly change textures upon breaking and placing. Furthermore, “Paintings” would be the finished product of filled out Canvases.
