Chickens actually moult, so if they're able to spawn eggs from time to time in MC, then why not also feathers? Nothing would change the amount of items dropped from the mob, only that sometimes the egg may end up being instead a feather. Just a small QoL feature that would decrease the need for many chickens (high-quantity entities in an area).
