When I first saw the chieseled bookshelf, I had this idea too. But now that I've thought about it a bit more, I feel like it would be best if only normal bookshelves can power enchantment tables. That way they'll remain relevant and not just be a worse version of the chieseled one.

If this was implemented, it'd be fun if removing 1 book from the bookshelf reduced its enchantment contribution by 1/6th. Not sure what the wide-reaching balance implications of that would be, but you'd be able to discretely take books from your friend's setup to prank them lmao

I also find this mechanic interesting. The chiseled bookshelf could only act as a regular bookshelf if there are 6 books, balancing it somewhat against a regular bookshelf, which is cheaper in terms of books and wood. I find the mechanic of controlling the enchantment level of an enchantment table through the placement of torches rather unintuitive. This would be a reasonable solution in my opinion.

That'd be great if 3, 4, or 5 books count as 1 bookshelf, and 6 books count as 2 bookshelves!

This would be a significant change, but I think it'd be worth it for the effect on early survival gameplay and the versatility of enchanting area design.

It'd also be interesting for changing enchantment level, if the books could also be added and removed by redstone.

I think this is a great idea. I'd prefer if the shelves weren't required to be full so that you could use them as functional storage for books and enchanted books without having to worry about a shifting enchantment level.

I think this would be a good reason to increase the enchantment level to 40 and require additional bookshelves/(Full)Chiseled Bookshelves and add new enchantments.

Lecterns should do this as well, along with candles as a reference to the Quark mod.

Para mi parecer la estanteria pincelada y los libreros deberian ser uno solo para dar contenido a juego en tema de actualizacion ya que las estanterias llevan sinn actualizarse mucho tiempo

I love the premise, but I have to disagree. This would make the regular bookshelf useless (apart from the lectern crafting recipe). It would take away the only reason to practically use bookshelves in builds anymore.

If you're gonna have two bookshelves, it makes sense they would have different functions.

I think, it's a really good idea. My additional idea is, that if you put an enchanted books into the chiseled bookshelves, the chances for this enchantment are higher to appear. You have to be careful to balance it right but if you do so it, it will be a nice feature.

I actually really love this. It would be interesting for enchanting progression if normal bookshelves had only a slight effect. Every full chiseled bookshelf (full of enchanted books) would let you enchant at a higher lever just like adding a normal bookshelf normally would. So every book you enchant could be directly plugged in to increase enchantability

Think about it like this.. You would build an Enchanting table and start your journey to become a max level enchanter. Every book you enchant could be directly placed into the chiseled bookshelves to power up the next enchantment, and so on. A maxed out Enchanting table could enchant at a level higher then currently available, or normal bookshelves could be nerfed to allow max chiseled bookshelves provide 30 levels of enchanting.

that sounds epic. Your grand collection of books all working together, a mighty force powering up a table of mystical properties that can enhance future books
