I'm not sure about effects, but I do like the idea of having smite or bane of arthropods show their stats.

3. Make explosions disable the shield

I agree, it should disable it for the classic 1 second, but for durability, I think explosions should deal durability based on how close you are to the blast, like how explosion damage is calculated.
