Pirates are like pillagers but worse! They will steal your loot and grief your bases. The only way to get this stuff back is by raiding pirate ships.
You can get coordinates for these ships by trading with a cartographer or doing villager quests.
Most pirate ships will consist of loot and treasure maps.
