Have the hardcore difficulty be set to whatever you want.

I mean, make it so, you can only live once, but set the difficulty to either Peacful, easy, normal, or hard, instead of just "you can only live once and have the difficulty only hard".

U get me?

  That can be done via mods, but in the base game, it makes sense to have it exclusive to hard difficulty since that's the point of the mode.

  It's HARDcore mode. Also, I don't think Mojang Studios would change one of the entire points of one of it's gamemodes that's been in the game since 1.0, and if they did, basically everyone who plays hardcore mode would be mad. The whole point of hardcore mode is to only have one life in a hard difficulty world. Removing the difficulty lock would remove the whole point of Hardcore Mode. If you don't want to play Hardcore Mode, just don't play it. Maybe instead of making a change that would change the entire Hardcore Mode community, you should just not play the mode if you don't want to.
