Unlike the overworld, the nether seems to lack any weather/natural events. Although this has been covered in another idea, that one focuses more on lava related events, which personally sound too much like a mod for an upcoming update. I believe that the addition of a heatwave would be greatly beneficial to increasing the immersion of the nether.
The heatwave could give you a degree of slowness and lower your FOV, and maybe cause half a heart of damage every 100 ticks (~5 seconds) so it isn't too deadly, given the size of some nether biomes. This would be quite a rare occurrence, but not so rare that it is almost never encountered.
The player would be warned a heatwave was going to occur about a minute before the event, where the nether's atmospheric fog could turn a darker shade, lowering visibility, and sound effects could be heard (maybe lava hissing could become louder, etc.) Anyway, the player would be given a bit of time before the effects begin. After a minute, the damage would begin. Potions of fire resistance could lower the damage to once every 400 ticks (~20 seconds), but not avoid the damage as it isn't 'fiery'. This gives more reason to brew in the early game before entering the nether, as the heatwave can prove deadly. Bottles of water could also help, as they are currently not very useful.
As mentioned earlier, the heatwave only affects one nether biome at a time making the player's aim to escape the biome before they die.
