I am writing to ask if there might be any middle ground with the blockchain and Minecraft situation?  I am a 60+ yr old father, Catholic Deacon, grandfather and gamer, and have invested heavily (basically my retirement) in a handful of Minecraft-based NFT projects.

    Why?

Because of ALL of the recent scams and such that can happen in blockchain, the ONE game I truly thought I could trust to be there in the future... was Minecraft.

I have around 100 NFTs spread around multiple MC projects. I only put a handful into each to spread out my risk... figuring if a project fell apart I was safe. But this?

It's almost literally my life-savings gone if there isn't any flexibility. I'm practically in tears.

Are there any ongoing discussions or anything?

NFTs are not just monkey pictures. Understandably the community is concerned but the core technology can improve player experiences and gives lots of flexibility to creators. Roblox is a centralized example of using a digital currency to achieve this.

Nft is a fancy word for blockchain smart contracts. SCs are therefore the natural evolution of technology. NFTs will propel the same mantra thar that Minecraft spearheads: open source.

NFT is therefore the technology what will keep the metaverse the way it should be. An open source human-centered project, as opposed to a well dressed corporate project (made by a fortune 500 company or alike) which keeps control and power within a board of directors whose main purpose is profits, and not human advancement.

I support NFT, I play with my nephews, we can't afford to buy such an expensive game, mojang, java, bedrock, microsoft, you can say what you want, but they charge an absurd amount for an original account, and within the blockchaim I will be able to collect money and pay gamepass, even if little, little by little I will be able to buy our original minecrafts which is the dreams of my nephews.

Most people don't actually understand what NFTs actually are, so it's not surprising they're voting against them. To start with, you can't buy NFTs with Bitcoin as Mojang stated in their article, such a huge fundamental misunderstanding.

I have been a long time player and fan of Minecraft and so are my kids. NFTs are the next logical phase for Minecraft. Rather than see this as a threat I urge you to see this as an opportunity to expand the potential of Minecraft, both for the user and for Mojang.

UpVote! NFTs can even be as simple as badges that are issued to a wallet for completing a task (I.E. not bought or sold).. In this case the wallet is like a profile and you can own your achievements.
Plus this will attract a fresh bunch of never-ending crypto nubs to stomp on lol

Don't understand the reasoning of NFTs going against the ethos of an open platform, other platforms don't hinder anyone from playing Minecraft as usual, and encourages expansion and creativity and new use cases. Most of which are free to play, even with NFT technology incorporated, and with very skilled and active developers and community

I would like to add my support for permitting (or at least not banning) NFTs within Minecraft. It is not necessary for NFTs to be implemented across the ecosystem, as its clear many players have differing views on them. However, those players and builders who want to create and develop experiences using NFTs for achievements, rewards and trading items should not be banned outright.

Mojang could make a clear statement not endorsing NFT usage, but acknowledging it as a fringe and developing gameplay environment. Disclaimers could be included for any experiences that make use of NFTs and that they are subject to the user's evaluation of the risks involved.

I implore Mojang to reconsider their recently announced stance on NFTs to avoid making a knee-jerk decision with unintended consequences. Frankly, a blanket ban on all blockchain & NFTs appears to stem from a flawed understanding of the tech. NFTs can be implemented in the game in many ways, including those which do not conflict with the goal of ensuring player inclusivity. Regarding NFTs, it should be understood that:

    - Not all are scarce
    - Not all represent value
    - Not all are subject to speculation

Ultimately, blockchain is simply a more reliable means to track records on a ledger and can be quite useful for compliant & existing implementations of Minecraft servers. Consider the example of a Creative server where players are given free plots. An NFT can be provisioned & linked to each region, providing permission to the user who holds the token. In this case, the NFT is simply a key to region permissions and provides the benefit of transferability in case players migrate accounts or wish to share permissions with others. It need not hold value or provide competitive advantage, nor would it be scarce or subject to speculation as more NFTs are minted whenever users requests a plot.

Inclusiveness and blockchain/NFTs are not mutually exclusive, and a full ban on the tech is short-sighted. It would be prudent to take a more nuanced approach by outlining bounds within which NFTs can be used with the game while maintaining the inclusivity we all desire.
