The old world type wasn’t used much, but there are still people who loved those worlds. It was fun to have the challenge of only having 256 x 256 x 128 blocks to work with. It was also very nostalgic. The purpose of old worlds was so older or lower quality devices could play Minecraft without lag caused by infinite worlds. This can still be an issue. The reason old worlds were removed is so developers can focus more on the other world types, but I don’t see why old worlds can’t be created like an infinite world inside of a border, albeit with a few restrictions.
