I know it’s a bit of a wacky idea, but hear me out!
You’re exploring the underground when suddenly you come across a magical cave… From afar, a golden glow fills the air and, as you get closer, you realise that you have found an extremely rare kind of underground cave: one that contains a river made from liquid gold…
Appearance:
These caves would generate with a stream of liquid gold on the cave bed. It would emit a dazzling golden glow and maybe particles. It should be downright beautiful.
Use:
Besides their natural beauty, golden rivers would be a renewable source of gold. Similarly to lava, liquid gold would burn the player, but unlike lava, it would also drag the player down into the depths of the river with no hope of escaping alive. The player would be able to pick up the gold in a bucket and transport it. The gold in the bucket can be poured anywhere and it will behave somewhat like lava.
To extract usable gold from this liquid, the player would have to cool it down. How? By pouring it on a cold biome. Over time, source blocks of the liquid poured would turn into solid gold blocks (the change would happen faster the colder the biome is).
I think that this mechanic would be very interesting as it would add a different way of obtaining a metal such as gold. It would add an adventure value to the game (a sort of Minecrafty search for el Dorado). And it would incentivise the players to explore the world (both to find a Golden River and to find a place to cool it).
