So, currently the deep dark looks and sounds very challenging (although it will be worth it for that poisonous potato drop). But I think we could have a bit more challenge.
I suggest that the distance of light emitted from light emitting objects should be halved, so if a torch normally emits light 10 blocks around it, in the deep dark it would only be 5. The distance of light would also have a hard cap on 5 blocks so even if you placed a beacon in the dark it would only travel to the edges of the pyramid.
I also think, when the Warden arrives, and the lights all dim, all fires would be extinguished. This includes fires, candles and campfires.
For a real challenge, on Hardmode, this would also deactivate Beacon effects.
