While I see others have already suggested this, they haven't quite taken the vision kingbdogz has for the Warden in mind. He has mentioned that the Warden is meant to be seen as a force of nature, an unstoppable force that is not meant to be considered "killable". As many have pointed out, the player's ability to place blocks is a hindrance to this idea, and soon you'll see speedrunners making videos about the best ways to quickly take out the Warden, likely via building a pole and shooting arrows from above. While I do believe this to be inevitable, I don't think it needs to be easy.
Another thing kingbdogz has mentioned is that the Warden becomes faster and stronger the more damage he takes. This is where my idea comes in:
The Warden should have the ability to break blocks. However, the strength of this ability should be directly tied to his anger, with his ability to destroy expanding to blocks with greater explosion resistance as he grows angrier, making even obsidian a non-issue when he's at about 25% health. Furthermore, unless a grabbing mechanic is instated that lets him pluck you off of a pedestal, or if you implement a corrupting effect that is AoE on his position, his range for destruction should increase as well. Throwing blocks would be another reason not to extend the range, though, and the range aspect needn't be considered an integral part of this suggestion.
This would truly make him a force of nature, which is what the idea was all about. Thanks for listening!
