It's a nice idea, but I don't know if it's feasible. So far all items have take the same time to get smelted, and that seems to be hard-coded into the game. It would be nice to have variety, but giving different items more or less time to get smelted might be a whole long technical process that they don't really have time for in 1.18. May be in another update? Who knows.

I think this could be balanced with the following conditions for the smelting: it'll take 6 times longer per block verse a single raw and the XP return is the same as if you smelted a single raw. This would mean you have to wait longer (but still faster than smelting an individual raw ore) and you'd get less XP in return for a full raw ore block. Fuel consumption is done per item as I recall so balancing it is going to have to based on the XP reward and how many ticks it takes to smelt the item. So while you would get more iron/gold/copper faster/ingot, it's less of an XP reward so players and prioritized based on which is more important fast iron, or getting some XP easily.

The obvious reason is they are too big to fit in the furnace.

I think, that smelting raw ore blocks should become full blocks of the material.

    Short comment but ok.
