But what's the point of hard hats? They aren't needed.

It could be nice for an option in world generation for "Eras", mods help with this for Java, but I know nothing about Bedrock. personally, I'd be happy with some options of Medieval/Renassonce Tech being official, especially if it helps reduce grind for solo gamers like me. This falls into the category if there's a lot of mods doing it, and it's not against their "modern violence" policy (a fair enough thing; aka guns/bombs, extreme warfare). I think it should be considered, especially ideas reoccurring across editions. Alot of mods are aimed to fill in "holes" of vanilla, some are way off the way and shenanigans yes, but a fair amount are also well thought out and reoccurring solutions by different developers over different versions. If popular mods aren't feedback, they should be.

Instead of more "modern" items, they could always have more magical/fantasy themed items that work the same way...

I disagree with this post entirely. First off, bending the laws of the universe is MAGIC, not science.

Second, how would you make said items with your bear hands? Maybe some tools you made with your bear hands.

Finally, guns and stuff would ruin the game.  (trebuchets, catapults and cannons on the other hand... those would be fun. I won't go into why.)
