Can we change Minecraft gamertag without changing X-Box name?

Right now, I think it's linked to your X-Box/Microsoft account, and I think it would be neat to not have that. I was  going to change my Minecraft gamertag, but then realized that it was linked to my X-Box/Mcrosoft account, so I didn't. I just don't find it very user friendly that you have to commit to your entire account changing to change your Minecraft gamertag.

  And also have to pay 10$ to change it instead of for free like it used to be

  It could be called a nickname and work like Java names.

  It would be preferable if even changing your Minecraft gamertag was free, but the Xbox one still costed money. (please note: what I just stated is my minimum for change on this gamertag topic. It would be preferable if the whole thing was free.)
