No need to be rude. They have a reasonable and logical reason for suggesting this.

However, I personally think they don't need to rename them. Stone has been called Stone since the earliest days of Minecraft, I doubt they would ever rename it. And "Deepslate" simply sounds cool!

Back in the early days of Minecraft, there was only one stone. Now there are plenty of Stone types. Regarding how long it has been called stone. It does not matter how long something has had a name, look what they did with Zombie Pigmen. They made them better. They can do the same for Stone.

Im not against this, personally. I think the reality is it would cause a huge stink with the "coarse dirt feels too modded" and "I miss when it was just three blocks and all you had was a stick" crowd. Personally, developing an almost educational philosophy and leaning into using actual geologic terms and features of generation would be cool. It also leaves it open for adding other realistic geologic features too. Minecraft is ready to go in a direction that isnt based on preserving peoples nostalgia but rather growing and changing slightly to reflect whats now possible with newer hardware and how the world works and the players interaction with it.

I was going to object to Shale, but then I did research. Stone does indeed look like Shale, and Slate is just Shale that has been compressed. Makes perfect sense. :)

I guess I'm used to Shale being littered with fossils, but I've found this isn't necessarily true.

This doesnt need to be added for 2 reasons, 1. Stone was one of the first blocks added to minecraft and minecraft doesnt need to be realistic. If mojang were to rename stone mojang would have to rename everything with stone in it. 2. deepslate sounds cool and it doesnt need to be changed, it went through a name change already

The best part with my suggestion is that Stone Tools could remain the same since it would make it for all stone types rather than just Stone.

I don't believe this is a good idea for vanilla Minecraft, and it doesn't really fit Minecraft's charm. However, this is perfect for my 100% realism modpack, so thank you.

My only problem is that the stone in Minecraft behaves completely different than shale. Shale is a sedimentary rock while Minecraft stone, being made from lava and water, would be a igneous rock. I believe rhyolite fits better than shale.
