Fireflies & Firefly Lanterns

Fireflies! They'd be a great inclusion to Minecraft. You could use them to make Firefly Lanterns. A variation of Lanterns specifically for either placement or holding in the Second-Hand Slot, that has a light source that slowly goes out over time. You'd have to restock it with more Fireflies. This could finally allow players to bring lights with them while mining and not have to waste so many torches. Firefly Lanterns shouldn't stop mobs from spawning though. It's light, but it's dim. So therefore they should still be able to spawn. That's my suggestion for Fireflies that goes along with my Entomologist Suggestion.

    Good news, fireflies are coming to Minecraft in 1.19! However they don’t seem to be used as a light source. Hopefully the developers come across this post and consider your idea. It could really add some nice functionality to an otherwise purely aesthetic mob.

    Maybe we could collect the fireflies in a glass bottle by going near a swarm of them and right-clicking a bottle in front of it, being able to collect up to a stack of 16 bottles! This will give us fireflies in a bottle and we could use them to make firefly lanterns, the recipe being exactly the same to a normal lantern but instead of a torch we would have to place fireflies in a bottle item. This might give off a light level similar to a soul lantern and I think would look great for decoration!

    Like how soul fire lanterns are blue, I feel like the firefly lanterns should be green because fireflies in real life emit a green light

    If the devs do happen to come across this, make it so the player can bottle fireflies similar to bucketing fish. This would allow players to use them as atmosphere for builds. If a firefly lantern is added then the bottle of fireflies could replace the torch in the base lantern recipe.

    Edit: maybe I should read the other comments first, well seems like other people agree with the idea.

    I had an idea for firefly lanterns too for in the 1.19 update. You could use them as a light source and bait for frogs, it would probably be difficult to try and bait the frogs though. I also had the idea that the more fireflies in the bottle the higher the light level.

    Now that they're removing the fireflies as a food source for frogs, your firefly lantern idea is a great one for making a new light source!  You should be able to scoop them up into a glass bottle, and the more you catch the brighter your light should get!

    Fireflies should be a particle effect that appears at night that appears around some plants in the swamp which the player can pick up in a bottle and take it to another plant elsewhere. It would add an awesome atmostphere to the swamps as well as be a particle effect that the player can control like the spore blossom but more restricted. this would be really useful for builders and making the world seem more alive, capturing the essance of a wild update.

    Please add the Fireflies Mojang. You showed them, please add them. Don't make the argument that it's unrealistic, Mojang, this is a fantasy game where you play as a 2 meter high block person who can hold thousands of tons of gold. Realism or not, they're cool and should be added.

    The frogs dont need to eat them for them to be a good inclusion in the game, the asthetic they provide is enough(and the possibility of another diffrent colored lantern)

    It's a pity they deleted them from this update, I really wish they'll implement them later on. I hope others share my opinion so the developers may notice us

    Firefly lanterns shouldn't melt ice for prettier builds.
