Hello as we all know the combat of Minecraft is a touchy subject. While a large portion of the community just wants the pre 1.9 combat another portion started playing the game after 1.9 so they would not like such a big change again. I think we should take aspects from both to make a compromise instead of reworking the whole thing again and causing another controversy. My idea would be to have swords work similar to 1.8 but also have a cooldown. With the sword, you could spam click and it wouldn't have a penalty but it would only register as a hit when the cooldown was up. so swords would have a slightly reduced cooldown from 1.8 and no penalty. The same goes for axes except they all have the same cooldown as each other and they only deal one point more damage from their sword counterpart example Diamond sword 7 Damage Diamond axe 8 Damage. There would also be sword blocking, it would work similarly to 1.8 except if you have a shield you can't sword block. This way you could choose to use a shield and tank damage or you could try to keep people away with sword block hitting. also, people with a shield would take slight knockback so would sword blocking. I think this is the way the combat update 2 should be implemented instead of causing another controversy.

The light and heavy stuff just makes people spam click to prevent the enemy from dealing heavy attacks, which is the same as reverting back to 1.8.
