I already saw someone’s bug report on this same topic was recently resolved as “works as intended.” So, I decided to take this to the feedback page. I was playing around in the new Beta, and with the render distance in a recent update being slashed in half, you cannot see the new build height of 320 blocks. I have built many tall skyscrapers that are now not visible from even the shortest distances away. It also makes nether travel way more difficult than it should be. I read the render distance was cut to 14 chunks from 22 chunks because of realms, but I don’t own a realm, my survival world isn’t on a realm. I don’t think it’s very fair that us with single player worlds have to seemingly be punished by no longer being able to see our beloved builds. I love Minecraft, and heavily appreciate the MOJANG team, more than words can ever express for working heartily for many years, and even through a pandemic, to bring us the game we all love. But I must say, I sincerely hope in a future update that the privilege of sight beyond a measly 14 chunks will be bestowed upon us. My reasoning is if the Xbox One S can run GTA V and RDR2 perfectly fine with zero issue, it can run a bare minimum of 22 chunks. Perhaps more. Maybe a solution would be to implement a default lower render distance for just realms, but have single player worlds revert to how vastly better they used to be.
