After the 1.9 update, combat was totally changed. Pretty much all the main PVP servers on java stayed on 1.8.9 because it is a better form of PVP gameplay. I was thinking that what if we had a compromise and had two different versions of Minecraft for the later updates. 1) Vanilla survival regular 1.9 combat PVP. 2) Reworked combat system to favor the PvP community while we still incorporate and get access to all the items, blocks, and game changes that we got through the updates. For example, we could get access to crossbows, netherite items, holding items in your other hand, etc.. But, we would rework it so that axes deal less DPS than swords but can still be useful. Shields don't deny melee damage but instead only deny all projectiles. Any weapons will deal a little bit less DPS if you were to let it charge up but you deal more damage and more KB. Again, the list goes on and on about ideas, and these ideas here are just some concepts from my head and definitely could be iterated. Again if this doesn't get lost in the void I think this would be great for people in the PvP community because then we get access to the newer stuff. And then both the survival/PvP people are content with their different versions of the game.
