I would love it if we can use the glowing dye to make night light beds that glow in the dark and get a unique glowing bed

Instead of being similar to squids, why not make it a JellyFish that's much more a unique mob. The JellyFishes could have different colored variants and the glowink (rename it to glowjuice or something) could also be colored, enabling colored lighting. Just because glowsquid seems like a cheap reskin on the surface and something you'd expect from a mod and not the base game.

Thank you for giving this mob an actual use :)

The only thing i can think of to improve this is to make glow item frames and signs give off actual light.

Glow squids should rarely spawn in different colors.

Should be able to put them in a bucket for easier transportation. I think a lot of people would like them in aquifers but you wouldn’t be able to get them there unless they spawn in aquifers

Mrzealot9763 yes, bucket of squid is very good idea!

Add some kind of glowing solid block to build with, has glowing structures inside dark places could be cool

SimplySarc, a Youtube channel, thought of an idea amongst other things that maybe ores should glow. I don't think they should glow by default, but I really think this would be a perfect idea for glow ink sacs, to craft them with ores to make them glow, and give particle effects based on the ore! Think of how much more immersive players can get when building, especially building their own caves!

Glow Lichen should spawn in much larger patches, especially in aquifiers and noise caves. Right now them only spawning in patches of 1-2 just looks kind of ugly

Sería bárbaro hacerlos brillar en las cuevas subterráneas!!

How about combining torches with glow ink sacs to create a better light source to explore new dark caves. For example something like an ultra-bright torch.

Glowing inks can be used to dye leather armor.

After looking at the latest snapshot, I feel that the new caves are very dark and empty. That's why I believe that aquifers would be a perfect place to find glow squid. So far, I've noticed that aquifers can be vast, and very dark, making them very hard to explore if your not in creative, or don't have night vision. If the glow squid live in aquifers and are changed to emit light, they would make exploring aquifers much more feasible, and seem more full of life.

Not only could they spawn in the new underground aquifers, but also have an exclusive biome for them as well- a glow cave- where the cave is full of luminescent blue/green glowing moss, plants, etc. (similar to the glow worm caves in New Zealand). This could be a rare biome that would make cave exploration much more rewarding for any player who finds them because of its uniqueness and sheer beauty.

I'm unimpressed so far. glow squids are both too common and too trite in their uses. Glow ink sacs could be used to do SO MANY COOL THINGS

    * mix with dye to make a glowing dye of that color. make any block that uses dye in its recipe a light source

    * place on the ground to smear a light source on the ground

    * maybe a brighter form of torch?

    * smearing glowstone on other objects to make them "gilded" with light sources, like trimming

I'd like to see them do a bit more. When looking at the vote videos I seriously believed they'd give you a "focus/hypnotization" effect. Said effect that would force you to watch/paralyze you when coming really close or when trying to kill one.
I do realize it would be annoying, but having a new effect and making a potentially passive mob agressive would be neat

YungRavioli2674 They have voted for a mob that does nothing, but looks cool. They are not going to add new uses for him.

While I haven't found the glow item frames to useful in normal gameplay, they have exciting uses in datapacks and other types of command creations due to their ability to make any item emissive, and by proxy any custom model the mapmaker creates with resource packs. My only request in relation to the glowing item frames is that they have an NBT tag that changes what "light level" the item displays at, as currently items in the frame can only display as if they were displayed at light level 15. I don't imagine this to be too hard to implement, but of course I don't code the game so I wouldn't know (and also the NBT data of glowing item frames probably isn't very high on the 1.17 to do list).

TLDR; I wish there was an NBT tag that allowed us to dim/brighten glowing item frames

Some kind of constant pulsing to the 'glow' effect, perhaps timed to the movement pulse, would go a long way towards making the squid visually less like an accidentally non-darkened texture and more like a living thing.

Using glow sacs to dye collars for glow-effect collars. I saw a suggestion for this under mobs and thought it would be good to link here.

Everything you can dye should be able to glow as well.
-Leather Armor -Pet Collars -Cauldron Water -Banner Patterns -Beds -Candles
    etc.

Anything that crafted with glow ink sac should emit light as well, maybe light level 7 or 6

glow squids should only spawn under a certain y level like maybe under y=0.

I would really love if axolotls, at least, were "mesmerised" by glowsquids and thus not attacking the glowsquids. i think it would be a nice way to implement the gag from the promo video, anyway. (though i do also love the notion of players being mesmerised/hypnotised w some kind of status effect as a self defense thing)

also going to second every "glowsquids should spawn in cave aquifiers" comment, especially that they should spawn in the deeper cave areas. i'd love a biome for them, too (someone mentioned a glow cave biome a la New Zealand glow worm caves ? JtStillPlays, you're a genius), but obviously. that may be a bit much

Glow squids should be very rare once they spawn naturally, be It in deep oceans and the deep dark underground, but very rare

I think the new glow ink sacs should be able to brew a new potion, 'potion of glowing', and its variants, we can currently only see the glowing effect using spectral arrows, bells (for raids), and commands, it would be nice to have a 'potion of glowing' to use at will.

I personally didnt support the idea of the glow squid in the votes on twitter however I have faith in the glowsquid and some ideas about it. Like for example we could dye the redstone lamps to get a higher light level or combine the glowing dye with normal dyes to make glowing dyes to use them to also color redstone lamps to get more light colours! we could also dye the leather armor but i thought that this would be suggested too much to add up.

I'd like to see a colored leather armour, like only some small pieces of the armour will get colored.

    • First, I saw this in another post but I would love to see the jeb_ nametag easter egg work on glowsquids as well
    • I believe that glow inc sacs should be able to be applied to banners, just like how dye can be added to banners, so we can have glowing neon images and signs
    • It would also be fun if the glow inc could be applied to leather armor, sheep, and dog collars as well.
    • This one is a bit more of a stretch, but I think it would be so cool to have a bio-luminescent ocean biome that the glowsquid can also spawn in, where the water turns an electric blue and emits a small amount of light wherever an entity is touching it.
