Just to clarify, I love and appreciate very deeply all the hard work the developers are doing with this new update, and I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I am afraid of this sort of thing becoming a theme in minecraftt, because I feel it would detract from the quality of the gameplay.

That's not a decision made by political correction, the "drop = kill" mechanic it's so monotone and the developers are changing that for other drop mechanics because they want to add variety and want to make the Minecraft community more creative when it comes to building farms, everyone knows how to kill in Minecraft and that's very repetitive.
And pls, stop searching activism in every development decision.

No Mystic Ervo, I think he/she is right. Mojang has been moving to be quite progressive lately. From supporting Black Lives Matter to denying adding sharks because they would "encourage killing sharks", they are trying to make Minecraft more and more "political correct".

Moving away from politics, I don't really think it's a good thing to keep adding new drop mechanics to every mob. Not only does that make it harder for them to code new mobs into the game, but it makes things over complicated.

Look at turtles for example, you can get their shell and use it as helmet. The obvious/intuitive approach is to kill them and take their shell. Yet, they don't drop it when you do that, instead dropping a bunch of useless stuff. What you should do, is breed them so when the babies grow they drop "scutes" and then use these scutes to craft a turtle shell (???).

how is mob cruelty discouraged? farming still works and the mobs who react to being hit are just creating. i think your fears are misplaced bro.

So what you're saying is that a game where half of the mobs fight back and most of the mobs have useful loot drops is somehow cramming pacifism down your throat? I don't think we're looking at the same game.

The game doesn't lack quality just because not every feature revolves around your play style, and personally I think that insisting that it should is what would make the game worse.
