    Love this idea, but I think the way it's implemented now is a lot simpler. Balance wise, you'd need to find a way to scale every effect in the game, including for instant effects.

    my idea will work alongside yours

    for example eating a vegetable using half of the usual time, you only grand 0.5 heart.

    What if food items had durability, just like tools? It would fill a certain amount of hunger points for each "bite," so that eating would take time, but could still be resumed if you're interrupted.

    I think stacking could still be done this way, too: The whole stack would have a durability bar, and every time the bar depletes, the number in the corner decreases.
