When using the Elytra flying over a heat source block ie. lava, furnace, campfire; will cause an upward "heat lift effect" (3 blocks of upward flight over heat source at (y= [source height+10] ) while above exposed sources of heat and multiply by the depth and exposed number of heat sources from that base number. I understand This base number would have to be adjusted for balance so that flying wouldn't be impossibly Overpowered across lava lakes in the nether.
( possibly make it an inverse number causing the lava to pull down on the flyer while crossing lava in the nether.) This heat effect would have an inverse cold effect reaction "pull down effect" over an ice biome or ice spikes in the overworld.
Overall I believe that this fairly simple effect would simulate real world flying more effectively, and create a need for skill, attentiveness, and forethought when using the Elytra.
