Why new enchantments for shields are so important
I really enjoy the work that's gone into the newest combat snapshots and feel like the PvP has pretty much been perfected, and although there are complaints about some weapons being too powerful compared to others, most are just personal preference and that's what these new snapshots are trying to push.
However, the shield feels extremely under-implemented: it's made of 6 planks and 1 iron, and once you craft it you have the most powerful shield in the game (the only exception being enchanting it with Unbreaking/Mending). It feels very non-progressive, and although tiered shields have been thrown around, tiered shields are going to demonetize anyone's shield that they've customized and loved before this update.
The best way to fix this is add special enchantments. Tridents and bows don't need tiers, they use enchantments instead to add a sense of progression. So why can't shields? Mutually exclusive enchantments can especially spice up shield-based combat. Besides, it's always been weird that a pair of shears can get more enchantments than one of the most vital combat items in the game.
