Developers have expressed a wish to make caves creepy again, and they have already begun to implement this to some degree with the Warden in the Deep Dark cave biome. My thought was to add rats as a new mobs that could help enhance this idea. Rats would spawn naturally throughout all cave biomes, you would find them hidden among the foliage of the lush caves or sitting within stalagmite clusters on the floors of Dripstone Caves. They would have the ability to startle players with the sounds of there movement, fooling them into thinking that a more dangerous mob is nearby. This would be especially interesting and chilling in the Deep Dark where, among those brief flashes of darkness, a sound might really cause a fright, possibly tricking players into believing a Warden is nearby, or distracting them if there is. The core idea is that they would largely exist as a way to make caves creepy or just more life filled, but they could also be given a neutral mob mechanic. My thought for that possibility would be that if five rats were within a certain number of blocks of each other and the player, that the rats would attack as a pack, each one individually dealing two damage, or one full heart. This would be even better for that creepy aspect, because though the rats may not usually attack, they could not be dismissed upon being identified. Finally, I feel it likely that many players would like the ability to tame rats too, and so they should be able to do so with wheat seeds.
