Enchantments should visibly increase the stats of the item they are applied to. I don't mean like a texture change or particle indicators, I mean in the inventory where the item's stats are shown. The increase, of course, would be rounded to the closest number.
As an example of how this would work, let's say that the player has a diamond sword, which, when hovered over in the inventory, shows it deals 7 damage. The player then enchants their diamond sword with Sharpness I, which increases damage by 1. The damage of the sword is now 8, and this now shows on the weapon's "description" as 8.
An alternative of sorts is having it state the base stat of the weapon, and then its increase. Using the same example as before, the damage stat would show as "7 Damage (+1.)"
This would probably apply with effects as well, such as Strength visibly increasing the damage of weapons, and Mining Fatigue showing your tool speed loss.
