The comparator is a Redstone type block that emits a varying signal with any block that you can place and leave something inside of. I have observed some blocks that could fit this parameter but don't work. These include beds being slept in by a player or villager, activated beacons, and mob spawners.
Beds would have a weaker pulse if being slept in by a baby villager, a stronger pulse if being slept in by an adult villager, and a maximum pulse if being slept in by a player. This could make automatic nighttime defenses avoid the flaw of the daylight sensor activating the defense before there is a someone in the house.
Beacons would have different strengths depending upon the tier of the output and what item was used to activate it with Emeralds finally becoming useful for that. This could make beacons able to activate the security in your base while giving a festive rainbow look.
Mob spawners would have a stronger pulse depending on the size of the mob it will spawn. Silverfish spawners would emit the lowest pulse and Ghast spawners would emit the highest. This could make auto mob farms much easier.
