The cicada would have a rare chance of spawning on the side of trees. Primarily they would serve as a food source in the early-game stage. If the player hears the sound of a Cicada they can try to track it down (if the cicada isn't startled and stops chirping).
This mechanic can bring awareness to how eating insects may save the world one day.
The cicadas could be collected and its shells used in a decorative block or dye.
The block made with this could serve as a noteblock influencer when placed underneath to produce a musical ringing noise.
Cicadas could rarely spawn as a bio-luminescent kind that can be used as a light-source.as there are few light-sources that can be used in all natural environments such as magical groves, woods or even caves.
Naturally the cicada adds ambient sound of its own.
Finally, and in my opinion the most interesting idea about this, the "Potion of uproar", or the "Potion of tumult". This would be a potion that extends the radius over which nearby sounds can be played to a player. Should a monster or animal be just out of range for a player to hear, those who have the uproar/tumult effect applied to them may still hear them over this further distance. The player would use the potion to locate caves, dungeons or other discoveries.
The negative counterpart of this potion would of course be the "Potion of silence" or "Potion of stillness".
This potion would be made with the same cicada ingredient as the cicada block.
