    Yeah, that was certainly the weirdest part of the announcement for me too, it doesn't make sense and doesn't feel vanilla

    I'm really on the fence. I both love it, and feel like it doesn't fit in vanilla as is, and I have no idea how I would change it to improve it. I think it could works... but:

    • You shouldn't be able to get ridiculous loot out of it, like diamond or emerald blocks;
    • The brush needs to make more sense as a new tool in the game

    If they actually add this to the game, I don't wanna play anymore.

    It’s obvious there gonna add more to it. Be patient and see what it can bloom into. And let’s face it yeah vanilla is changing. But i say as long as it’s going at a slow pace like this, I don’t care. Infact the only reason I came here to comment is to say to everyone bashing the idea. “It’s not the game it used to be” and I’m super glad for that. It’s evolving naturally like every game should. Wanna hate on that kinda progress. Ok. But just know, this idea can turn out to be something really incredible. So go take your icologer/moobloom losing whines all the way down down to the deep dark. Progress is changing, get with the program or don’t update. It makes sense to put archeology in for caves and cliffs, I mean it involves digging so yeah. Like I mean seriously. Some of the stuff they added already felt like a mod. Cause wanna know what mods are? A way for players to put their ideas into a suggestion and make it playable for everyone, it’s basically like this feedback place, but more fun for modders to do.

    it seems way to industrial. it’s out of place and they need to either trash the idea or make major changes to it for it to fit in the game

    does not feel very true to Minecraft at all, in my opinion. hopefully that will change by release - whether it is removed or changed substantially.

    Whilst I agree that it's a little odd of an addition, It isn't such a strange addition to vanilla.

    We have already in Vanilla, Ruins, Abandoned Strongholds in multiple worlds, Abandoned Mineshafts, Fossils.

    It seems no stranger then Fishing to me.

    The clay pots add a collectable element of Minecraft, that was already exciting some of the community, e.g. Rare block hunting, but each update made it harder and harder to collect 'rares' as they all became fairly common.

    So whilst it's not something that interests me, I don't think it needs an explanation from Mojang, and it's already been announced.

    It also appears to be a way to get (at least gravel) slabs etc for decorative purposes.

    Plain and simple: I hate it.

    This would have been a neat mod for certain types of packs, but it feels weird, low-quality, and out of place as a part of Vanilla Minecraft. This is not related to, nor does it fit with, any part of Minecraft that has existed thus far.

    I like archaeology, and if it feels like a mod, I'd say that's a very good thing. Minecraft needs to stop doing small, safe updates that fit the vanilla theme, and instead go for more daring ideas that deviate from vanilla a bit, as vanilla can get boring.

    Although, I'm not a fan of the clay pot fragments being so rare and non-renewable, I wish there are ways to make the archaeology process itself renewable and repeatable, perhaps from brushing common dirt and gravel that is obtained everywhere. And admittedly there are much more exciting ideas out there other than archaeology. Feel free to take inspiration from mods!

    To everyone saying Archaeology doesn’t fit, it does. Minecraft is a game about mining and exploring so of course Archaeology should be a feature. Although it’s a new concept, it is thought out but does need some improvements. Ideally instead of the designs being clumped together, it would make more sense if each side individually could be designed instead. Emeralds/Diamonds are a placeholder btw.
