Cleaving basically fixes that problem with damage.

I definitely agree that axes should be buffed! I think they should do 2 more damage, personally, and keep their reach. Well, actually, I'd prefer for diamond axes to deal 12 damage, but people seem to think that's insane.

Blast Burner, a cleaving 3 netherite axe has a DPS of 24. A sharpness 5 netherite sword has a DPS of 30.

The difference between a cleaving 3 axe and a sharpness 5 sword is actually more than that of a non-enchanted axe and a non-enchanted sword!

Personally I just think they should have equal reach to a sword. I'm not a fan of the reach stat.

Although I had thought about how it was silly that an axe has 50% more material than a sword to only have 1 extra point of damage and disable shields. If a diamond sword does 6 damage, a diamond axe doing 9 wouldn't be completely unreasonable, right? That's about what they do now, even.

Axes deal +1 more damage than swords in the current snapshot, but that isn't really enough to compensate. Making it deal +2 more damage like you said would definitely make it more worthwhile to use. Or, a better option could be to nerf swords. I'd like axe to be the highest damage dealing weapon, with the price of a longer cooldown and less range.

Maybe making it so they don't lose range upon spam clicking could be a good buff?

Or even making them give their opponents slight slowness upon hitting them so that they can land hits more easily with the axe in chase?
