Change the Axe damage back
In the current combat snapshot 8, they changed the damage of axes to 8, from 10. Along with this change in damage, they changed it's attack speed and made it faster. I'm sure this has something to do with the new cleaving enchant. If axes still had their original damage, the damage would be 14 with cleaving. If you do a critical hit with this new enchantment on the current axe, it would do 21.5 damage, and you would one shot most mobs in the game with a critical hit. I'm sure they didn't want this.
But, the problem is now, they are now no different from swords. I think they should've kept the damage and the slower attack speed and added the shorter range. That would balance out the axe so that it is stronger, shorter and slower, almost forcing you to get critical hits and punishing you for whiffing, but it rewards you for timing your crits and risking getting up close to enemies, especially creepers, in hopes to one shot them.
