I'm sure most players who've tried PVP know how much a winning factor reach is. Axes could do twice as much damage as swords, but the reach difference will make them stilll underperform in PvP (In PVE axes would be too strong, though).
So what if we made the reach difference not that big? I think we should try this numbers:
Normal: 2.5 reach (unchanged)
Axes: 2.75 reach (buffed)
Swords: 3 reach (unchanged)
Tridents/Hoes: 3.25 (nerfed)
This way, Axes would feel more balanced, and Tridents/hoes won't feel as strong as they are right now against mobs, who can't even touch you.
