This would probably be a new Enchantment, seeing as how Protection does a different thing.

Though I do agree that this could be a nice thing. However, I don't think the max level should block all damage.

This was my post during Combat Test 7c, But I do agree do to Shields having a Protection limit, they should be able to use enchantments to increase their protection limit. But because you can now attack while behind a Shield, The enchantment should not protect you from all damage.

How about Fortifying for the naming?

I think that 4 levels would be fine, if for every level 1 point of damage is blocked. That's to not make this broken, but making it a reliable idea.

Yeah we need enchantments enchantments in general. How about a few more to add on.

Nails- basically thorns but for shields. However it only reflects melee damage. Will reflect whether player takes damage or not.

Reflect- makes it so arrows maintain more momentum upon bouncing off a shield to make them more likely to hit an enemy.

Counter- knocks enemies back upon dealing a melee attack on the shield. This allows a little more breathing room for the player. Much weaker than regular knockback. Knocks back more per each level.

I like the idea of enchantments on sheilds, but adding more protection with enchantments might be overpowered. I would suggest enchantments such as knockback, mending, and unbreaking. Or maybe a new enchantment just for sheilds!

Personally I think it should be called Defense and per each level it will increase the damage limit of your shield by 1.

Another enchantment idea for shield could be Stun- makes it so upon dealing a melee attack to a shield there is a slight chance that the player of mob doing it will be stunned for 1 second. This chance will increase per each level. When stunned players and mobs will move and attack a lot slower. Basically imagine a player that is normally walking as if they are sneaking and their attack speed limited.

    Shield enchantments...

Might: reduces your knock back and increases knock back of the player or mob (if melee) or arrow. Up to level 3 mutually exclusive with resistance

Bashing: When a shield is tased mobs or entity within one block range should get stunned (or if player get blindness and slowness 3 for 0.5 seconds this attack should have a cool down like that of an axe. This enchantment increases stun time by 0.25 seconds per level. Up to level 4

Resistance: adds one to the protection level of the shield. Up to level 5 mutually exclusive with might

Actually The Shield Can Be Enchanted But It Must Be In The Form Of Unbreaking And Mending.

I think the enchantments should be similar to protection enchants on armor, but they should have a different name and work slightly differently since a shield requires an active block. Maybe call it fortifying?

There should also be a 'reflection' enchantment, similar to Thorns. Blocked melee attacks have a chance to reflect their damage back at the attacker.

Yes and make swords block again but only 25% of damage
