Yeah, Minecraft should have more space for different fighting playstyles/roles, this would be perfect por a ranged support and normal potions would remain perfect for melee support.

The thing is though that while that would make tipped arrows more useful, there are still arrows. It wouldn't really make sense if you took no damage by an arrow head to the arm.

Hey Blast Burner, potions are basically magic, despite being arrows one could just say that the potion's magic transmute the arrow when fired in order to only applying the effect.

To add to your post, maybe healing arrows don't deal damage to living mobs, while harming arrows don't deal damage to undead mobs. Also if positive arrows don't do damage, they shouldn't do knockback either. I think this would be an interesting idea, and I don't think it would hurt, so you have my vote.

Something interesting to see would be that healing potion tipped arrows could be stronger against undead.

So an arrow that gives a glowing effect won't deal damage? Arrows are arrows and without having something like a slimeball at the head of the arrow to reduce that damage just doesn't make sense to me. Healing tipped arrows though should at least deal less damage than a normal arrow. Also both healing and harming tipped arrows deal more damage to undead and living mobs.

Or have a new type of arrow which can be tipped. These types will deal no damge to allow for more diverse mechanics. Sponge arrows. You can tip them but they won't deal damage. This will also add another use for sponges.

Healing arrows damage undead mobs, so this would cause problems

I think that this should only apply to Healing and Regeneration

I agree with this! Tipped arrows should generally be buffed as nobody uses them, especially the status ones. They should also be easier to obtain, like how Bedrock edition uses cauldrons to get tipped arrows. Add an achievement / advancement for this, to teach newbies how to craft tipped arrows.

The duration of statuses should be increased, and helpful arrows shouldn't deal any damage, so that it's more viable to shoot yourself and other players.

BlastBurner, please stop trying to make Minecraft into a hyper-realistic game. It's a fantasy game with magic and three headed explosive monsters, and it should remain as such. It's fine for magical helpful arrows to deal no damage to players. Useful, imaginative items are much more important than realistic items.

Maybe they can deal less damage, but tipped arrows with positive effects are still arrows, so that's why they deal damage.

Or we could craft a new variety of arrow on th efletching table that deals no damge and can be tipped, like a wool arrow or a sponge arrow.

For the people who are saying this doesn't make sense, okay you have a point (pun intended). However, this is just a game. So I think it's perfectly fine to overlook things that don't make 100% sense for the sake of better/fun/effective game mechanics.

Imagine if you couldn't mine wood with your hand. So ya, it doesn't need to make perfect sense. So many things in Minecraft already don't.
