I don't think the saturation boost is balanced, but not having saturation work at all really sucks, I think it should be reintroduced

Do you mean like the quick regeneration, or how healing didn't take the hunger notches if you had saturation on top of a full hunger bar? What about increasing the max hunger points from 20 instead?

Saying "I miss this" is a terrible reason to add something back, especially if it's an overpowered and fundamentally broken mechanic. We already regenerate 1 health every 2 seconds, which is already very fast. We also literally have stackable potions, and way more food variety than before. Adding this back would just make hunger more inconsistent and confusing. The problem with the saturation boost was... well, everything:

First, we already have variety in foods. We have steak/porkchops for the most hunger, honey for fast and stackable consumption, rabbit/suspicious stew for fast consumption and a lot of hunger, and kelp for the fastest consumption. That may not sound like much variety, but it's much more variety than just steak/porkchops for the most hunger, and golden carrots for slightly faster regeneration.

Secondly, it's inconsistent. Your regeneration can zoom, and then just stop and you have no control over it. Your regeneration should always work regardless of whether you had a golden carrot a millisecond ago. These regeneration breaks are infuriating and pointless.

Lastly, it's overpowered. Something as cheap as a steak shouldn't work like a health potion. The saturation boost defeated the point of healing potions, adding less variety anyway. It also extends PVP to last forever, because nobody could inflict enough damage to surpass the regeneration. If you want to instantly regenerate, that's what health potions are for.

Saturation working for healing doesn't mean it has to be as quick as before. What he was saying is that saturation should work for healing just like regular hunger does, so that it takes saturation first and then hunger. Because currently the system is completely broken, 2 rotten flesh heal more health than a golden carrot does.

John Chen As long as saturation doesn't affect regeneration speed, I'm fine with it. 1.8 saturation is fine, but 1.9 isn't. The OP wasn't very specific about which system should be brought back, so I assumed the worst.

You are right gas powered pick. Even though the natural regeneration's healing speeds have been slightly slower, this would be considered both complicated and overpowered. And I do agree that my reasoning was very poor, as I didn't really care if this was to be added back into Minecraft or not. However, I don't understand the food variety that you mentioned. I have changed the post so it's hopefully less overpowered and more suitable for combat.

Saturation is still there... why are people saying it was removed? Play the snapshot, it's there. Meanwhile the new regen works longer, its quick maybe even too quick, and it limits sprint. Its a huge improvement. Imagine saturation boost returning but nerfed, and you have to eat like 4 steaks to heal up!

May be saturation could boost regeneration to 1 hp per 1.5 seconds instead of 2.0 seconds. A small change, but could work.

Blast Burner I still disagree with adding the saturation boost. I personally don't like any form of saturation affecting the speed of regeneration. I do think your idea of making it less OP is an improvement, but I'd much rather take no saturation boost. Though apologies if I sounded too harsh. I just really hate the 1.9 saturation boost, and I really enjoy the combat tests mostly because it's removed. I'm fine with saturation working just like hunger (like in 1.8), but I believe that every aspect of the 1.9 saturation boost sucks, so let's agree to disagree.

I understand gas powered pick. You didn't sound that harsh and you were only making your point. I'm sorry if this will be a part of the new pvp and if it doesn't, then you get your no saturation pvp wish. I just wanted the foods to keep their abilities whenever and wherever. :)

Do you guys think having the saturation but not being able to regenerate health when hit for a certain amount of time(say like 7 secs) would make it more balanced?
