Good idea, but quartz is way too common to be as good as iron.

They should require 6 quartz to make a quartz ingot. Then you would use the same recipes as the iron variant but replace the iron ingots with quartz ingots

This does makes sense. If people are starting in the nether, they can't just have wood and gold tools and armour until they get to the overworld. They should have something else in there. Maybe because of this, quartz could become slightly rarer, because the main armour/tools used in the nether should still be wood and gold. Nice idea!

DigitalDrei think more than 6 quartz maybe 6 or 9 blocks per ingot, It would be broken for who has a fortune 3 pickaxe

Normally, you are not supposed to start in the Nether, so I don't believe this armor should be added just for the sake of this unofficial challenge.

Maybe instead of iron, it’s similar to chain mail in terms of armor?

My thoughts exactly! Quartz has a 7 rating on the Mohs hardness scale, comparable to iron. It would be so cool to craft white armor with it. Maybe to balance it a bit, the protection and durability it offers could be a bit less than iron, more like chain mail. Perhaps you need to use 4 pieces of quartz to create one ingot? And maybe it also enrages skeletons as a drawback!
