I think it would be very beneficial for a new, interesting type of mob, rather than the see you and follow you. I think there could be some kind of deadly beetle, or something else if fitted well that, when the player makes noise, it will move towards. If you get too near, or it gets too near to you, it will strike!
I think this could create a very diverse play-type as players will now need to reconsider if they should have loud doors, or lots of villagers talking in their house.
