Ancient Debris should be locatable by a compass - Treasure Enchantment.

     Since Netherite is magnetic (according to snapshot 20w13a), there should be some sort of enchantment that allows for compasses to track the general direction of Ancient Debris.

     "Ancient Affinity", or the like, would be a treasure enchantment, and incredibly hard to find. Roughly 5-10% of top-level bastion chests would have them, and it would take an extensive trade with a Piglin to acquire the book (0.0025%, being as that is the probability of trading for a Netherite item).

     Once found, though, it would be able to lead you to a general location containing Ancient Debris. An compass with Ancient Affinity would lead you about 5 blocks away from a single vein of Netherite before shattering/reverting to a normal compass. This is an irreversible consequence, and these compasses cannot be repaired.

     -A secondary idea, would be that an Ancient Affinity compass could also be given secondary enchantments.

  • Unbreaking - up to level III -  would add to the veins you can find before the compass shatters/reverts.-
  • Efficiency - up to level III - would take you a block closer to any given vein per level.

    Does it only lead you to one vein of Ancient Debris? If it does, what happens next? Does it shatter? If it does, this might be a pretty balanced idea! Also, you said it’s hard to find, but where do you find it? Maybe it could be a 8% chance of being in a Piglin loot chest?

    If it shatters after being near ancient debris (like 2-3 blocks), then this is a very good idea.
