Great idea, but, you should have to make a special frame around the inscription table. also, i think that turning on this setting should disable achievements.

This would be better as a creative tool rather then a survival feature.
Having this as a survival feature would not feel like Minecraft but rather a mod, it should instead be a thing only obtainable in creative mode.

I’m going to add my two cents to the wishing well.

I’m also a jealous bedrock player lol

Adding this feature will be about as OP as creative mode is OP. I watch my young kids play all day in creative mode and infinite access to stuff doesn’t ruin the game for them, instead it actually makes the game accessible to them. So based on that, I counter the argument that it would destroy the nature of Minecraft.

Let Minecraft survival endgame stay sane, but add this feature for fun, via cheats.

As for the bloat it would cause for mobile users... well yes and no. An infinite overworld has the same potential to bloat, albeit quite a bit slower. But I know that I could create 100 new worlds on my device for the thrill of adventuring and discovery and I would end up running out of space. There would need to be a cloud offloading management feature added perhaps.

Bloat could also be mitigated by making dimension worlds limited to a certain number of chunks if they are to be persistent rather than transient dimensions. This could be determined by the user (as it currently is, with the create world type selector [flat/infinite/old]) or by device resource limitations.

I also like the “dual seed” idea. Instead of just having the text directly seed the dimension, have the book text hash with the world seed (or perhaps the portal coordinates/geometry/any combination of variables to salt the hash)

Doing so would add an astonishing intrigue that would make for countless experiences.

Maybe you could be in an infinite world, when you're dreaming, it would be very cool, it could be based on the most loaded chunks. This would be so cool!

I did not have Java at this time, so i missed out on it. I still wish it would be in the game.

What if each individual world, not worlds in these portals, but if each one had a 12 character world-Id. That way, you could make portals to your other worlds, friends worlds, realms, and external servers like Mineplex.

But back to the infinite dimensions, the inscription tables, you could choose to type in an Id to make portals to the different types of worlds.

I think this would be much more useful if we could take our inventory’s through different worlds. Although creative realms/worlds, and external servers would not transport inventory’s.

They really just need to make custom dimensions/dimension settings work on servers, and add more options to the settings list.

This is a good idea. Just going to ask, are we able to paint our dimensions too? That would be so fantastic. This really needs to be added in. Anyone would enjoy having more room to build and have peace from grievers and mobs. I have more ideas to help support this and this is one of my most favorite ideas. :)

I definitely would like to see this implemented. Of course, it should be a worldgen option, maybe even default it to turned off. But honestly, this would be a great way to make use of buffet worlds, and a way to make them so much more interesting. I find buffet worlds incredibly boring. I never use them as a result. But having the option of making a portal to take me to another world would suddenly give a goal to being in such montony. Likewise, from a normal world, being able to build a portal to get *to* various different buffet worlds could also be neat.

Refining the idea, it would be interesting if the game rule had options:

    • Full chaos as implemented in the joke snapshot.
    • Sanitized chaos as has been suggested by others (removing the worst options but leave most)
    • Buffet worlds, where the alternate dimensions are limited to a single buffet world for each biome.

This solves the balance issues, and makes it more useful. I don't think end-game access to a buffet world of each biome type is going to unbalance anything.

With Minecraft coming to a close at the end of this year, we need a sequel. The april fools infinite portals provides the perfect chance to explore what that might look like

    Here’s my idea on this:

Make the portals to those dimensions out of crying obsidian - not normal obsidian

Lighting the portal by throwing in a written book without needing a flint and steel

Those portals can only be opened in the end dimension (to make sure its end game)

Those dimensions will enable fast travelling through the end in the same way nether portals allow fats traveling through the overworld (with one block in those dimensions being equal to 8 blocks in the end)

Anyways I think this will insure it’s an end game feature and will give additional reasons to build bases in the end (for the resources found in those dimensions). Also, I think it’s possible to require players to combine a book with a new item that can only be found in end ships and cities  (maybe limit it to one per ship or city) so that players won’t be able to just make infinity portals.
