Or we can use nether gold -if it becomes rarer and separated from the overworld gold- maybe

Mojang should properly incentivise the collection of 3 biome specific items(one from each biome), when these 3 items are put into a crafting table, it would create an orb that would charge the respawn anchor once.

Why make it more expensive? Respawning in the nether is arguably a detriment already.

I think blaze powder is a better than glowstone blocks. If it's going to be glowstone, it should just be dust.

In my opinion it's to expensive the way it is right now. But I guess since you think it's too cheap then it's balanced and it shouldn't be touch. From my perspective, when you start a survival in the nether, imagine the amount of time it'll take you to gather all the gold without furnace in order to barter for the piglins for crying obsidian and then find consistent amount of glowstone without silk touch or fortune 3, because it is impossible to get high level enchantments there.

diamonds would be a good cost, or gold they both work!

I think it's good the way it is. The soul sand valley is already useful, mainly for its abundance of bone meal, arrows, gunpowder, and especially the particularly overpowered amount of ghast tears. Also glowstone is not quite that cheap, you need to access the ceiling, and glowstone runs out fast considering how useful it already is (for amplifying potions, and doubling your arrow count). Sure glowstone is not rare or expensive, but it's not that renewable either (unless you have a cleric villager). Respawn anchors are not that cheap either, as you need to barter with piglins quite a bit to get the amount of crying obsidian you need. When travelling hundreds of blocks in the Nether to find a fortress, it is nice to quickly set spawn at said destination, and making the player wander hundreds of blocks more kind of defeats this purpose.

I agree, it should definitely be a new resource found in the soul sand valley; maybe a new mob drop.

I believe the price is actually very well balanced. The respawn anchor itself is sort of expensive to craft, and considering how easy it is to get a bed, I would say if it's not balanced, it's going to be too expensive, not too cheap.

Disagree with you so hard its not funny. The glow stone is enough. This game is already a grind why do people keep trying to add more? I think its perfectly balanced currently

Honestly gold blocks would be a better alternative

I agree that a negligible cost is about the same as no cost at all. However, the alternative to the anchor is a nether portal link to a bed in the overworld. The difficulty of powering the anchor can't be more than the difficulty of building a portal or nobody will use it. I think long run survival players would love an anchor that is challenging to power but if a nether portal can go anywhere then why not just do that? Or am I missing something?

Maybe glowstone can only charge it once 1/4 and gold nuggets charge twice 2/4 gold ingots can charge it three times 3/4

I like the Idea of it costing:

2 XP Levels + 1 Unique new items from the soul sand valley.

p.s. add charred bone blocks to the soul sand valley and in the nether instead of white bones... There is no reason bones shouldnt be burnt here lol.

The difficulty of the recipe and trade balancing to preserve rarity of acquiring the crying obsidian makes the cost somewhat balanced.

Regardless of the cost, any player skilled enough to execute trades with them and venture into the nether for other resources, would already have an abundance of any other required material.

There's a balance between gameplay and mindless grinding.

The idea isn't to have a cost to respawn there but more to add some new functionality rather than just being able to infinitely respawn u have to remember to fill it up. And the block itsekf is already pretty darn expensive

Totems of Undying seem like an obvious choice. Perhaps a totem of undying being used would mean a respawn without losing items, though?

Agreed, I think a fire charge would be the perfect item to charge it as it's a challenge to get and for something like respawning it's crucial that the item is difficult to get in bulk.

skizotoro So you're saying we should cram 5 slots in our inventory with totems of undying just to save some trips to a Nether fortress. No thanks!

Glowstone is hard to get? Since when? One vein of glowstone will in reality be all you need to charge the anchor until you git gud. Introduction of respawn anchors is a perfect opportunity to make gold more valuable and versatile, since we are on this "make gold great again" trend rn (also check out https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/360043615652-gold-rework).

It would also make charging respawn anchors less "grindy", more exciting and adventurous: instead of "I gotta pillar up for glowstone" We could choose to either search for nether gold ore or attack pigmans(zombified piglins rn...). Right now there is no need to attack pigmen unless we make huge industrial gold farms.

To balance and make it cheap (like glowstone) but not too cheap(like glowstone), we could use golden nuggets instead of ingots (thus making golden nuggets even more useful).

The reason glowstone as a cost is effective is because it makes it expensive early-game, when you have weak armor and poor weapons, but much cheaper in the late-game, once you have more powerful gear. As such, it follows Minecraft's natural tech tree design of "key locked in a safe". (Such as how it's so much easier to raid end cities with the powerful gear you find there, or to kill blazes once you have potions) The cost could be raised slightly to perhaps cost more glowstone, however.

If anything it should be cheaper (just glowstone pieces, not blocks) . Having to clear out all of the glowstone I see just to set my spawn point don't make it any more challenging, it's just annoying.
