Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Please remember new items belong in their proper categories and not the temporary Java snapshot category, as such we have moved this for you.

    This is an amazing idea!

I think this is a great idea. But for it to make sense it should only drop nuggets or something that can be converted into nuggets. I think that ingots would be too easy

daniel andrade that is why it says in the post it drops Gold Nuggets... I thought this all the way through.

It would be cool if it spread like real fungus or spontaneously spawned

I love this! Maybe because the IRL fungus collects gold dust, it could drop gold dust instead. Also, glowstone is a gold dust. Maybe glowstone doesn’t spawn near it? Or gold dust can be crafted into glowstone? Finally, you should be able to grow it by placing it next to a lava bucket in the overworld.

WombedJester718 Thank you! And while it does collect gold dust, I feel it would only be able to craft 1-4 nuggets at a time, making it take longer to fulfill its purposes which kinda feels un-needed with all due respect. Also I thought about it growing on Glowstone, but the fungus in real life only grows out of soil like substances, so I chose Nylium and Soul Soil, though that is an interesting idea. Also don't know about growing it with a lava bucket, perhaps there could be a way to grow it more realisticly on grass? But idk, it's supposed to be more exclusive to the Nether. Love your ideas and comment!

    POST UPDATE

As much as we all love this, Mojang a day after this was made sadly went with generic Nether Gold Ore. Perhaps I can edit this to "Rework Nether Gold Ore"? Idk, but I just personally wish Mojang went with something more interesting and not just another ore. RIP Gold Fungus, you were a cool idea and still a better equivalent, maybe I can use texture packs to make it look like the fungus.

Would be cool, with a few tweaks: it spawns rarely and accumulates gold nuggets (up to 9), spawns in larger veins and gives off a golden particle.

    I guess that cloud work

I sounds amazing as it a new method of getting gold. And the fact that it is not an ore makes it more interesting. Making it difficult to obtain makes it fair since they spawn easily. I would like to suggest it be in a different colour though...Make It Happen Minecraft!!!

FervidGames Thanks for the feedback! And since it already grows to 9 nuggets with Fortune III I love the idea of the gold particles! Though don’t know how I’d implement in 3 different blocks. I plan on making upgrades to this post since everyone loves it and there is a chance Mojang could change their mind and rework their basic “Yellow Nether Quartz” to something way more interesting.

afiq azli Thank you so much! And I've thought of the gold particles in the fungus maybe being a Rose Gold color, but then it would need its own ingot so that either could be a downgrade or an upgrade. Still thinking on it since this is somehow more famous that Nether Gold Ore itself.

It a great idea but it would need to have a way to get it. I don't know if you have to use a shovel or a picaxe to mine it, but since the nether basically is nothing but nether rock and lava with an some glowstone and quarts everywhere would be easier to get because all of us know what to look for then because soul sand is found in the opening or in the nether temple

Ethan Kirk It states above in the post it's mined with an Iron Pickaxe and up, please be sure to read the whole post as it can help improve your comments!

It's a nice concept, you could make it glow because it collects Glowstone dust makes since, and I like the idea of crafting glowstone from this in my opinion, you could make gold or a light source, or you could drop Glowstone on it to make it glow, might be cool way to get light, in your Nether base.

I mostly support this idea But I still think if they added this they should lower the nether gold ore spawn amount just because this would be everywhere or make it spawn very rarely with these blocks you mentioned.

I really prefer this to the Nether gold ore, it's unique, it's new.

1.This should be mined with a hoe, since it is a farmable type of item. It should be slightly limited in how many nuggets given to counteract the renewability.

    2. In addition to guarding these naturally occuring zones, Piglins should actively grow & cultivate this fungus near their bastions or preferably at the heart of the bastion. This will give them more of a driving purpose for their affinity for gold due to the work they put into it.

    3. Perhaps soul fire could spread very quickly across this fungus &/or cause the fungus to die & disintegrate the gold nuggets. This would explain  part of why Piglins are such an extreme reaction to soul fire.

    4. Given the soul fire mechanics, perhaps this fungus should only grow on soul soil or grow faster in soul soil in comparison to growing on Nylium.

    5. I love the glowstone refernces, I think maybe instead of bonemeal you & the piglins could use glowstone dust to speed the growth/spread of gold fungus &/or add to the amount of nuggets recieved when mined by using glowstone on a fungus block that has nowhere to spread.

I think it would work really well if it grew off of nether gold veins. Have the nether gold veins be smaller (the size of diamond veins perhaps) while the nether gold ore blocks act as a seed and cause the fungus to grow off of it. Of course the fungus should then drop much less gold and experience, from 1 to 3 nuggets with a very rare fourth one seems good to me. Also, although the real fungus probably doesn't behave like this, it would be very interesting if the fungus spread in a root like structure rather than like grass. The root like structure would also make creating an efficient automatic farm for it a much more interesting problem to solve.

SugarBunnyKiss Noah Z Thank you for your ideas and comments as I love them and are very creative! Though I did do some things for reason of course. The reason I chose nylium and soul soil is because nylium is made up of hyphae which is basically all the gold fungus is and uses to collect gold. Also if Mojang doesn't wanna choose this I would totally love to see it infused in nether gold ore as it would be very interesting, and could even have a unique name. Also I tried to keep the realism while still keeping it minecrafty, it all works like how it would except for the multiple nuggets and obvious gold sparkles in the hyphae of the Gold fungus. Think I might just edit this post with all your ideas added though I am worried about the current pandemic and it stopping post approvals by a long shot. Thanks for all the feedback as I really look forward to more and hope to see Mojang choose creative ideas such as this.

Wonderful idea!  Remember that the fungus is just a growth on top of a block, and therefore should also drop the block it's growing on, like grass.  It should also seamlessly fit in with the textures of the blocks it's growing on, you did this well for soul soil but not for netherrack.  (Then again, Mojang would probably make a few tweaks to the texture so that isn't a big deal.)  All nether gold ore should be changed into gold fungus on netherrack and the texture should be similar so people don't get upset.  Maybe it could shoot out gold mushrooms occasionally to reproduce, if that's not too laggy.  The mushrooms would produce spores and the spores could float around and take root in other blocks.  Don't worry, Mojang, you won't have to program for giant golden mushrooms, as these would be a bunch of little mushrooms on top of the fungus block, kind of like warped sprouts.  You wouldn't be able to bonemeal them into trees, but you could bonemeal a patch of gold fungus into mushroom-bloom.

P.S. Do spores "take root" or "take mycelium"?

P.P.S. The spiderweb-like growth on the soul soil looks amazing.
