I personally think it should be a recipe of the amour combined with 4 netherite as eight is too much and 1 too little I would suggest this for the armour and not tools though.

A strong drawback may make it less OP.... Like how about if netherite items return to diamond if they are ever exposed to water (i.e. you are wearing or carrying a netherite item when you are in water).

I'm totally agaisn't lowering her stats, a new end-game material can always be nice, but I really think it should costs more, so yeah, 4 netherite to upgrade diamond tools can be interesting.

I agree, it should cost more to upgrade.

I think it should take more netherite to make tool armor, but also be a bit more common in the nether generation too.  That way it would be easier to use netherite blocks for building materials.

Are you kidding? It already takes 4 Netherite scrap (plus four gold ingots) to make a Netherite ingot. It's already dangerous enough to go mining in the Nether, and making it sixteen instead of four Ancient debris per item is too much.

Listen, it takes forever to find ancient debris in creative mode. Just think how long it would take to find anything in survival mode without dying. There is tons of lava!
Also, forcing a player to grind is bad game design. Not every player has time for that.
Finding what you need to make the stuff is harder than getting diamond gear, so it is already balanced. Especially since netherite gear requires you to get diamond gear!

Edit: I made a survival world to see how long it would take to get a netherite pickaxe. It took me less then half an hour to get a diamond pickaxe (I did find a mineshaft ravine though). Then it took me less then an hour after getting diamond to upgrade to a netherite pick.

It should keep it's enhanced effects/durability but it should not do better Damage/Defense then Diamond.

It also opens up the possibility for more armor with special effects in the future without replacing what we got now.

I do agree it should be harder to obtain netherite armour but I don't agree it should be nerfed. I think different rules should be set in place for its enchanting like I suggest as many have said you should require 4 netherite ingots to upgrade a diamond piece. And for the enchanting you could do one of 2 things. Increase lvl required for max tier enchants and the drawback level and make anvil usage more intensive (only for netherite) or introduce a new netherite specific leveling system for its enchanting.

First of all it you already have to find the ancient debris which is just imposible in creative with commands .So just imagine in survival and you have to get four netherite scrap (plus four gold)and if you want to increase the crafting then you should increase the reward .Like making it so you get a fire resistance buff when using it.

It should be harder that’d way it’ll be more rewarding to, after countless hours of grind complete your set

IMO, it feels kinda weirdly balanced. The same amount of debris is required to upgrade both a shovel and a chestplate. I get that they want it to feel unique, but frankly, I'd rather them tone down the crafting recipe for ingots a bit (like, 2/2 debris/gold) but make you craft the items like you would anything else.

Also, ideally, you should be able to smelt down a netherite tool for a piece of ancient debris. A netherite hoe is a new, very rare barter from one of the piglins, and having a possible, albeit incredibly slow method of renewable debris would make it actually possible to have netherite blocks for decoration in survival.

I think they should make netherite armor powerful only in the nether, maybe by making the armor set fire resistant? They also should not replace diamonds, so maybe by making the armor set a little weaker than diamond armor but completely fire resistant could fix their issue.

Also what would be nice too, is to make the ancient ore more common just to balance out this idea. People won't be in the nether too often and if the armor were to only be useful in the nether, then it should be more common. Maybe you could find the ore inside of basalt? Both basalt and ancient ore have log like textures. This would drive people to look for the soul sand valley, this would make it more interesting, because mining for ancient ore under the nether is kind of bland and less exciting than to search for the ore in the new biomes.
