Sneak shield is an excellent implementation for Minecraft PE, as blocking incoming attacks would be extremely difficult with so many buttons having to be pressed at the same time. However, I don't believe this feature should be added to the Java edition in the new combat system, as the right mouse button not only provides an already-easy means of using the shield. However, this is not the only issue I see with this feature. The more pressing issue, is that not everyone constantly wants their shield up while they sneak, mainly because the shield creates a fairly large blind spot in the player's FOV. For example, a player could be sneaking along a bridge over top of lava in the Nether, but they have a shield in their off-hand. A Ghast appears in their shielded blind spot, and spews a fireball at them. They will plummet to their fiery demise after the fireball connects.
While this is a very hypothetical scenario, it remains a possibility. Along with these types of situations, comes the fact that this blocked FOV could become somewhat annoying after sneaking for prolonged periods of time. While the easiest probable fix for this is just not to carry a shield when you don't want a shield on you, simply not having this feature at all still allows for the player to simply right click to block attacks, which has worked perfectly fine thus far.
