Observers should see through transparent blocks

    Why would it cause more lag than the current solution: placing 8 observers next to each other?

    This would be an additional mode of the observer, the current behavior would remain. You would be able to switch between distant and local detection.

    This is a good idea, but it is impractical as it would result in a ton of lag.

    This idea would destroy many existing usages of observer. Often, observers are used to monitor transparent blocks, like melon/pumpkin stems.
