This suggestion would make caves much more dangerous at lower levels. It behaves like water, in which you have air bubbles, and take damage if you run out. However, you quite obviously won’t be swimming in this situation. When your air runs out, you take damage and get nauseated. Any potions that have to do with breathing, such as the “Potion of Water Breathing”, would be renamed to the “Potion of Breathing.” My idea is that the poisonous gas isn’t everywhere, but in specific pockets around valuable ore. Another interesting property of the gas is that it’s flammable. Players will not be able to use torches or lanterns in the area. This makes some areas of the caves (and ores) less accessible to people until the late game when they have glowstone, sea lanterns, end rods, or redstone lamps.
