Amazing idea, especially when you have overworld dungeons or fortresses that are thousands of blocks away, it's better to portal near them through the nether.

This would work only if the target portal is within specific range.

I agree with this idea, however I think it should only work for portals that are within a certain radius of eachother.  If they can be connected from any distance, it would limit the need for current travel options like elytra, horses, and ice highways, and take away from some features the game already has.

However, this still is a much needed feature, because currently if more than one person builds a base near each other that have two different portals, the portals are forced to connect to each other, which is not only inconvenient, it seriously limits the creative ability one can use when making things with portals.

Want to make a cool hidden base under spawn that you can only get to via a portal?  You can't.

Want to make a system of portals that results in a maze connecting both the overworld and nether?  You can't unless you make it extremely spread out, or only use a single portal.

Want to simply build a nice nether portal near your base that happens to lead to a different room in your nether base?  You can't.

This would be an extremely nice feature to have and would greatly increase the creative expression one has when building things in the nether.

This would definitely be very useful when you need to travel somewhere far away and be able to get back.
